Our annual subscription model gives your organization access to courses, instructor training, and dedicated support. Choose one or both of our industry-leading environmental training courses to equip your students with real-world knowledge and practical skills that match today’s workforce needs.
Environmental Technician Essentials is a five-day foundational course that introduces participants to environmental fieldwork. Students will learn practical, hands-on field skills used in a wide variety of environmental jobs. It also serves as the first step toward the full Environmental Technician Program, with credit applied upon completion.
Participants in the Environmental Technician Essentials Course will gain practical experience in:
- Preparing and planning fieldwork
- Documenting conditions and features by recording clear, accurate field notes and data
- Using topographic maps to understand the land around you and for route planning
- Determining location using the common coordinate systems: GCS (latitude/longitude) and UTM
- Using the compass as a navigating and surveying instrument
Participants leave with the core skills needed to support fieldwork across a wide range of environmental and natural resource activities.
The Environmental Technician Program is a comprehensive 15-day applied training curriculum that prepares participants for work in environmental field roles. Participants gain broad, hands-on experience with a range of tools for documenting and understanding landscapes, soil, plants, animals, waterways, and fish.
Participants in the Environmental Technician Program will gain practical experience in:
- Planning and carrying out fieldwork safely
- Using standard field tools across multiple disciplines (e.g., compass, clinometer, wildlife cameras, fish sampling gear)
- Identifying and classifying soils, vegetation, trees, fish, and wildlife
- Conducting field surveys, habitat assessments, and environmental monitoring
- Recording, analyzing, and interpreting environmental field data
Graduates are prepared to support environmental-related projects in forestry, mining, hydroelectric, oil and gas, and other natural resource sectors.

NRTG programs are licensed by organizations that deliver education or workforce training in environmental and natural resource fields, such as:

Licensing Availability
- Within Canada: Licensing is available exclusively to organizations teaching audiences under 18 years of age.
- Outside Canada: Licensing is available to organizations serving learners of any age.
